End member of the month?

I think it's okay but no other forum does it.

And besides, not everyone has been member of the month and some people have been member of the month more than once, making it like one big popularity contest that I think dates back to the days of FR.

Should we stop member of the month now?

That's so true and I do not like for one second that FR used to run it then peacefully handed over control to 'anyone' ... But I like how it's run and that it's completely democratic.

I don't see it as a popularity contest, more like which member has stood out the most from all the other member for that month. Also, the winners aren't all the same, there's loads of different members who have won it, it doesn't matter if you haven't won it yet, just know that you're appreciated here.

If you don't like the idea of MOTM then you don't have to vote you don't have to congratulate whoever has won it anyway...

And one more thing... just because you don't know any other forum who runs MOTM, doesn't mean we have to be the same as them, i think MOTM is a nice touch here.

You all have equal chances of being MOTM as there are no restrictions on who you can vote for, except for the previous months winner. We cant choose who is MOTM, you members have to vote for people and send their votes into RBF. It depends how active you are and also how well you get on with other members, thats why people vote for you.

I like motm and enjoy seeing new members getting nominated frequently. It's a tradition and the majority of members of here enjoy it.

Is this because you haven't been nominated reciently? Don't feel bad. New members come and go, so old members naturally aren't nominated every month. If it were a popularity contest then the most popular members would win all the time (this doesn't happen).. As far as i'm concerned it's fun to do and this is the only complaint i've heard since we've been doing it.

I can understand why some of you may dislike it, but is it really that terrible? I've always seen it as a fun thing that we do that sets us apart from some other forums. If we get rid of it the forum will just be more boring than it already is.

Maybe it's geting boring. I understand that. Maybe we can use this thread to take suggestions for other activities you all may want to take part in. Maybe changing it up or even adding more contests? What do you guys suggest?

Maybe we can alternate between who runs it?

Every election is a popularity contest one way or another, but I'm also neutral about keeping or abandoning MOTM. It doesn't hurt anyone (unless you get upset about not winning/being nominated - which you shouldn't), and it makes some people feel happy about themselves. On the other hand, it really is sort of pointless.. But hey, to each their own.

Also it's not my fault. You guys are the ones who choose who goes through and win.

Maybe ill poll the members in a seperate thread to see if they want smotm gone.

Maybe we should come up with a whole new system for motm or something and new rules to change it up. Maybe we can merge motm and smotm or something.
