Every intelligent animal fears death mainly for survival purposes, but we are the only ones who fear it because of the possibility of not knowing what is going to happen to us after we die. Like I said earlier, I don't believe that everything has a soul, only intelligent animals. I don't believe earthworms have a soul or that spiders have a soul, they're not intelligent beings. Cats and dogs are intelligent because they can tune in to our emotions. I believe that certain animals feel emotions, and to feel that to me means that you have a soul. In my belief, anything that feels love for something else (which I feel that cats and dogs do) then they have souls and will join us in the afterlife. When my first cat died, my parents told me about Kitty Heaven. I think that there are certain animals in Heaven and that we can meet our beloved pets again in the afterlife. I realize that you probably don't believe in ghostly occurrences, but there have been people who have seen and heard cats and dogs that seem to have been ghosts. Even ghostly specters have been seen with their beloved pet by their side.

I refuse to believe that humans don't have a soul. If we don't have one then what is the point? Why should we bother doing good to anyone else because in the end we all die anyway and descend into a black pit of nothingness? All of our good and charitable deeds amount to nothing. Without a soul then there is no benefit to doing what is right in the world because the afterlife in nonexistent. I think our souls is the only thing that defines our humanity. Your soul really defines who you are as a person. I refuse to believe that my beloved grandmother, who passed away almost a year ago, is just laying six feet under and that's it. I refuse to believe that she has no soul and that she is not in Heaven right now. Trust me, if you met my grandmother then you would definitely believe in angels because she truly was an angel in life and now she's an angel in Heaven who watches over our family. Other family members, including myself, have been blessed with signs of her presence and she continues to protect us not only during her life, but also after her death. She has given messages to us that we should no longer grieve for her absence, but rejoice in the paradise she has received in the afterlife. She has told all of us that we should move on and not mourn her any longer because she is happy. You probably think that I am a nutter butter to believe in such things, but it was only after her death that I truly believed. I was a Christian before this, but after she passed it made my faith even stronger. I cannot and will not accept the fact that my beautiful grandmother in nonexistent after her passing.
This made me laugh out loud

I know this person was banned but I just wanted to bring this quote back. That is an incredibly insensitive and stupid way to think about it. So if someone has something different about them that they hold close to them, we should ridicule them as far as we can? Don't you think that's some kind of dumbassery? That's like saying, that guy is black and I'm white, lets ridicule him as much as possible just to show that we are different. You sir, are fucked.

Bender is an athetist, for sure. It seems like Fry is one a little bit, too. He only prayed in Luck Of The Frysh and said God loved him in Roswell that Ends Well. Those were the only times.

After all, in Hell is Other Robots, Bender converted to Robotology for a while. He hasn't picked up on a religion since. So, maybe some of them are religious and believe in a higher power to some degree. After all, Bender believes in the Robot Devil.

The only athetist is Nibbler. When he took Leela to his home planet and told her every religion is wrong in the episode, The Day The Earth Stood Stupid.

I dislike how some people look down on all religions that aren't their own and act like any one else's opinion is stupid and worthless. Aswell as thinking they're superior in every way by being "right" (nobody will ever know whos right or whos wrong so we might as well stop the hate and let it go because it really doesnt matter).. I think religion is often taken to seriously and people should believe whatever the hell they wanna believe without others sticking their noses in someone elses business or judging them. This goes for both sides (anyone who force their opinions down your throat). They piss me right off.

That's a disrespectful thing to say to someone who is respectfully expressing their beliefs. Was bottles shoving it down your throat? No. She expressed in a similar manner to you, so how is what she said any different from your previous posts regarding how there is no god in your eyes? How would you like me to call you a "retard" for being an athiest? Or insulting your post? No, that would be disrespectful of me. It's your own beliefs and you should be entitled to your own opinion and it should be respected regardless of what I believe. Same goes for Bottles and everyone else on here. If you don't have something nice or useful to say, don't say anything at all. This is supossed to be a nice discussion here.

Most likely more people will be atheists in the future for various reasons but I'm unsure if there will ever be an atheist world in the same way that mankind has been religious for most of her history as an intelligent species - or at the least during the time she's been trying out this thing called civilization.

I think most of the western religions will become smaller and smaller. The eastern ones will take much longer to die out.

i think its a logical step in our existence that religion will slowly die off. never completely, but significantly enough. barring some dramatic unexplainable event that coincides with any of our religions. i think theres a reason these concepts were developed at a more primitive time in our species existence. the more we learn about life the less we will rely on religion to answer things for us. my view has always been that im not going to presume that i know that much about life to assume that any religious concept is true. and i dont think anyone does. its all faith based and thats it. to me they are all man made concepts that developed because of our fear of the unknown. i dont doubt the potential existence of a higher being, but if something like that does exist and is responsible for our existence i think it stops there. everything that happens on this planet we do to ourselves aside from natural disasters that have to do with the planet that are beyond our control. i am also completely incapable of blind faith when it comes to this so i cant just "believe" for the sake of making myself feel better. my brain just doesnt work like that.

all of what you said i feel the same way. especially the last part. i say the sooner it dies off the better. it's just another thing that seperates people.

I guess Farnsworth could be considered an atheist, he only believes in SCIENCE!

Relilgion in Futurama is rather a cultural thing for the main characters (attending church for weddings and funerals). Yet, none of them seemed overly religious. Even Farnsworth, the supposed "most atheist" character has no problem to attend.

We have not seen preachy atheism (Dawkins comes to mind) in Futurama, so I guess it's not really prominent in Futurama. There seems to be rather an agnostic stance (Tyson: "Have not seen the evidence, but am willing to embrace it should someone come up with it").

Some countries such as Sweden are almost completely atheist. I think in the futurama universe there will be other ideas of existence which come from creatures of other planets.

Not quite:
Wikimedia Error

First of all: "Not being member of a church" does not automatically make you an atheist.
There might be people believing in a "supreme being", but objecting to organised religion.
Right now, the survey says 23% believe in God, while 23% do not.
Those in betweens would rather be on the agnostic side. Which is often claimed by Atheists, thought they are a completely different pair of shoes.

"Do you believe in God" with a yes/no answer is rather a trick question. About the same way as "Did you admit being gay? Yes/No" will leave you no chance to come out of the question as a heterosexual. (To give credit where credit is due: I "borrowed" that argument from Neil DeGrasse Tyson, in his video why he does not want to be claimed by atheists as an agnostic).
Most people will be unsure about God's existence: Most believers will still have some (at least minor) doubts, while most sceptics will still not rule out the possibility of a supreme being completely.

So, the appropriate question is rather "Do you think there is a god? Yes/No/'unno".
Otherwise, "Do you believe in God" will shove the agnostics on the atheist side, while the question "Do you disbelieve in God" does send them on the believers side.

I got my information from here 25 Most Atheist Countries in the World - InfoBarrel

85% are atheist, so maybe almost completely was slightly extreme.

Well...85 is still extreme.

The survey says:
Quote:
1. Sweden ( 46 - 85% Atheist)
46-85 is a rather wide range. Also
Quote:
There you have it folks, the 25 most Atheist nations in the world. REMEMBER it is actually impossible to get perfect statistics and the term ‘Atheism’ will have been used widely incorporating Agnosticism and Non-Religious.
AND
Quote:
Of course I feel it is necessary to say, as you may have realized that I myself am an Atheist and have written in such a wa
There are of course lots of shades between "Is 100% certain that God exists" and "Is 100% certain that god does not exist". Even the theist leaning agnostic side ("I think the existence of a god is more probable than the nonexistence") does not really show a believe in God. Yet, obviously, it's illogical to call them "Atheists". Also, some Athesits often remain cultural Christs, which makes them again very different from anti-religious atheists, etc...
As stated before: The survey suffers from "Are you 100% certain that God does exist? No? -> Atheist" approach, to claim many groups. Still, it's no more valid than "Are you 100% certain that God does not exist? No? -> Believer".
