Simpsons disappoints me now...

I agree when you measure them with the standards of the classic era.
But I am convinced the episodes I mentioned are solid episodes and can stand strong against outings from other animated series.
The hardest thing the new episodes have to do is to survive the fact they will be compared time and again with the 1-8 seasons.
This might be not fair, because those seasons were a benchmark in television-animation and hard to eclipse.
KING ZOIDY
10-04-2010, 09:46 PM
They've been airing for 20 years, they're out of material.
cinco

Still, the Simpsons-universe is an amazing sandbox with 100+ characters.
It could withstand he test of time and be revived in one form or another time and again.
Obviously, the feel of the classic period will never be reached again, but I don't believe they'll ever truly disappear. (eg. Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny, Scooby Doo: animated characters are ageless and return in one form or another time and again)

I wish they'd just stop making them. It's unbearable to see one of my favorite shows be butchered.

It's not funny anymore, the characters are becomming bland and uninteresting, and the stories are awful. I'm not comparing it to it's earlier seasons, it's just not a quality show anymore.

I can understand that. There are a lot of new episodes I don't like.
But still, there are also episodes like "Eternal Moonshine of the Simpson Mind", which I wouldn't want to miss.
You can compare it with the Looney Tunes: excellent in the 30s and 40s, but lost a lot of spark during the 50s and 60s.

Here's my viewpoint about how animated shows and characters seem to survive and get resurrected in one form or another.
Futurama is another example about this phenomenon.
If animation proved one thing throughout the decades, it's its will to survive.
Animated shorts going way back to the 30's are still popular and watched by many viewers, the first animated feature has been released yet again this year on the market for home-entertainment, animated icons are getting rebooted, freshened up and updated for the better or the worse, merchandising is going strong, crossmedia is bigger than ever...

Examples enough. We can be certain "The Simpsons" will follow in the same footsteps as other
landmark-cartoon characters and the show will survive its tv-run, its creators, its voice-actors, us!
The show will know an end sooner or later, but reruns, DVD's, videogames, comics, merchandising will keep it alive until an eventual relaunch happens.
This can be a spinoff in the same universe (eg.Disney shorts 30's -> Ducktales 80's),
a follow-up in the same style (eg. Scooby Doo throughout the years),
kiddiefied or futurizised versions (eg. Looney Tunes -> Tiny Toons, Looney Tunes babies, Loonatics),
updated and modernized versions of the concept (eg.Superfriends -> Justice League),
guest-appearances in movies (eg. Who framed Roger Rabbit).
Everything is possible.
One thing is sure. It will never be truly over.

I hope Futurama will still be as strong as those 4 initial seasons and the first movie.
But it could end up the same way as your examples and become a lesser version of the original.
Luckily, the Futurama-universe is rich enough to spawn plenty of interesting stories.

Moe being happy would kinda ruin his character. He needs to be bitter. Although if this was real life then yeah Maya and Moe would probably belong together...
