When I went out to America, I would have to watch boxsets of this and Angel everynight, my brother is a big fan.
Spike and Giles have been known to make a guy feel good about the UK 3000 miles from home lol, I must give it that.
Plus it was funny... Spike gambleing with kittens to some Shark monster in a suit.

it had a few funny bits yeah, i used to love xander and his witty remarks lol
but there was also emotional scenes, i cried my eyes out when buffy had to kill angel to save the world :(

I heard they was thinking of haveing a British made spin off starring Giles, but, that's old and nothing happened of the idea.

I've been visiting my friend in hospital this week, and, when ever I do, I feel like Buffy Summers lol
In my head, it's like... I dunno
When people look to me for advice, I just give as good as I can.
Trying to make light of a sticky sittuation, and, in my head, I just feel like Buffy lol.
Like, If I say something stupid or off key, like, I dunno, If I put my foot in my mouth, I just, feel like Buffy lol.
I have my Buffy moments, I'm just there to keep my friend happy, save him from the fire and stuff, but, If I do say something off key, I just look around, during the awkward silence, and say something really goofy.
I'm not the best at giving advice and stuff, I just do to the best of my abailty.
I feel like, in my own head, either like young John Connor from Terminator 2, when he gets that kid out the room before the Terminator rips the skin from his arm to show Miles Dyson what he had created ect...
Like hey, why'd you show me your room.
Or... Buffy Summers. It's weird... in my head, I turn into a Californian lol
But, I have had my Buffy moments this week, moving the show along as chirpy as I can, after putting my foot in my mouth or whatever... just being regular ol' me brings out these things, when in that enviroment.

Buffy and its spinoff Angel are still my favorite series ever.
Every character is deeply developed, every episode has meaning, music in the show is always topnotch, there is really no show that comes closer to perfection than these two shows.
And Spike's character-evolution must be one of the most interesting in the history of television.
Still at the end, the show made me fall in love with amazing new characters like Principal Wood. What an origin-story!

Spike in Buffy once done something funny and out of the ordinary with kitties.
He owed them or won them or something, he gambled with live kittens with some Shark face demon or some other demon, that show was cool.

I finally started watching Buffy again.
Began with season 4, strange choice I know.
But it kinda feels as a fresh start with the whole "no Angel and no Cordelia anymore" going on.
And it's the first 16/9 season.

so...

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER

The Freshman

http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/buffy/images/thumb/2/2a/401_TheFreshman.jpg/284px-401_TheFreshman.jpg

Buffy-episodes never disappoint.
And here is our heroine feeling out of place in this new environment.
That disconnectivity you have when you start out a new phase in your life, it is present all over the episode.
When people move on and you feel kind of not able to keep up, what do you do?

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER

Living Conditions

The episode in which Spike, Harmony and Anya return.
The episode in which we follow three girls who feel like merely objects in the hands of their love-interests.
The episode in which Buffy and Spike have an awesome fightscene in broad daylight. (thanks to a little gem)

http://www.ehiztari.com/yolanda/Buffy_Screencaps/4X03Harsh_ligth_of_day/4X03_Harsh_Light_of_Day_0855_1.jpg

So Harmony is a vampire now. And this change made her character definitely more interesting for the rest of the series. (and the Angel-spinoff)
Also, she is in a dysfunctional relationship with Spike, who "as always" delivers the best oneliners.
(I love syphilis more than you)

And we see Buffy in one of her worst relationships with the oh so loathed Parker.

There'd be much more pot and guitar scenes

ilovebender.com
22-04-2010, 08:47 PM
well, more guitar scenes, Buffy and pot wouldn't really mix, unless I wrote those 3 evil geeks got stoned, or those lesbians, Willow and Tera, they would have a Lesbian sex scene, and... Buffy would join in, and afterwards, they'd get stoned, I guess that could work :P

cinco

Dunno, it was less serious.

cinco

Also with Jonathan and Harmony in it and they were not included in the final version of the pilot.

SuicideBooth
03-04-2011, 03:15 PM
Something tells me the rest of the series won't be the same as the unaired pilot. I mean it was basically pure comedy and action with some serious undertones. The aired pilot was noticeably more serious but still got a few cracks up its sleeve.

cinco
03-04-2011, 03:23 PM
Well, betzeen the episodes that follow a seasonal arc, there are always standalones and some of them play out the humour-card.
In a way the series covers all kinds of genres.

cinco

SuicideBooth
03-04-2011, 03:51 PM
I only saw a few episodes as a kid so I vaguely remember anything about. I do remember this one episode where someone was resurrected from the dead and came knocking at the door, but the rest were scared of it or something and later it was gone. So I'll definitely have some dejavu when watching it again.

Eventually I got fed up watching them back-to-back. I just wanted to focus on one series at a time.

cinco

Anyway, you've seen the whole series amazingly quick.
What did you think of 'Once More With Feeling'?

SuicideBooth
10-06-2011, 11:21 AM
Not much into musicals, but it was alright.

I've actually gone through the Season 8 comic.

"I will remember you" and "You're welcome" are my faveourite episodes.

cinco
10-06-2011, 11:23 AM
You're done with Angel already? :O man!
How many eps did you see in one day?

SuicideBooth
10-06-2011, 11:26 AM
I got pretty hooked. Watched about 5-7. Not every day though.

But man, the story was getting pretty wacked out in the comics.

cinco
10-06-2011, 11:30 AM
The comic lost the essence of the series. 'Wolves at the Gate' felt genuine Buffy-material though,
but once she started gaining comic-superpowers I really started to

-------------------------------------------------------------------

What did you think of the return of Angelus in S4?

SuicideBooth
10-06-2011, 11:42 AM
It's a fun read, but I'll never consider the comic in such high regard as I did the TV series.
------------------------------------
Dude, I was waiting for Angelus to return the entire time. There was one episode in S1 but that was just a temporary thing, but the Angelus arc in S4 was amazing. What I really hated was Connor. I think his story was absolutely unnecessary and he was unlikeable in general. Every time he was manipulated by some villain to turn him against Angel and that's all he did. Never once did it feel like he was a good guy. Fortunately they made him decent in the final episodes of the series.

cinco
10-06-2011, 11:51 AM
Yeah, they were able to fix a lot during the last season.
I also liked Lindsey acting as Doyle towards Spike during that season.
And we finally got some much-needed backstory regarding Angel and Spike.
Those two together... what a dynamic.
Then there is Wesley's evolution througout the series, turning into maybe the biggest badass of the show and losing everything in the end.
As soon as Illyria appeared, there was almost no time to breath anymore.

SuicideBooth
10-06-2011, 12:01 PM
Yeah Wesley went from the hopeless clumsy comic relief to a serious badass.

cinco
10-06-2011, 12:02 PM
What did you think of puppet-Angel? lol

SuicideBooth
10-06-2011, 12:09 PM
Oh that one was rich! lol

You're a bloody puppet!

Yoshirama
10-06-2011, 12:19 PM
never really watched it.

cinco
10-06-2011, 12:21 PM
I always regarded Angel as the series in which they really could cut loose while Buffy was a more formulaic series but still great also.

SuicideBooth
10-06-2011, 12:27 PM
I think S1 and S5 were the best, of Angel I mean.

cinco
10-06-2011, 12:54 PM
No love for S2 and the Darla-arc?

SuicideBooth
10-06-2011, 01:00 PM
Didn't really care much for the Darla arc. Though I did like the time Angel set both Darla and Dru on fire. LOL

cinco
10-06-2011, 05:10 PM
"I will remember you" and "You're welcome" are my faveourite episodes.

I believe you like bittersweet endings.

SuicideBooth
10-06-2011, 05:27 PM
Okay, i forgot the series finale. That too!

cinco
10-06-2011, 05:30 PM
Let's go to work! :P

Noticed it being also the last sentence of Buffy season 8?

And do you consider the Buffy S8 comic as canon?

SuicideBooth
10-06-2011, 05:39 PM
I consider the S8 comic kind of an alternate reality. You know, when you watch the TV series and then the comics, the two just don't fit seamlessly. The stories in the comics became way too over-the-top.

cinco
10-06-2011, 05:40 PM
And the Giles-thing in the comic. :O

--------------------

What did you think of Dawn in the series? And the idea of the potentials at S7?

SuicideBooth
10-06-2011, 05:46 PM
I think the comic really undermined his death. Like no soundtrack and stuff... Poor guy. Boy, did Buffy get screwed over. Faith got the cash and Buffy only got an old book...

The potentials was a genius idea. The fact that all those slayers were activated in the finale would have been the perfect final conclusion to the story. What happened next should of just been for the viewer to decide.

Oh... and.... Dawn's great.

cinco
10-06-2011, 05:49 PM
I think the comic really undermined his death. Like no soundtrack and stuff... Poor guy. Boy, did Buffy get screwed over. Faith got the cash and Buffy only got an old book...

The book that started it all though. ;)

But yeah book vs cash and horsies. Definitely a win for Faith.

Oh... and.... Dawn's great.

A lot of people didn't like her integration and saw her as some kind of Scrappy Doo, like Connor in Angel.
I think her character was worthwhile though, bringing out some responsibility in Buffy.

SuicideBooth
10-06-2011, 05:51 PM
Dawn wasn't that bad, certainly not as bad as Connor.

cinco
10-06-2011, 05:54 PM
Oh yeah, that brings me to The Gift. That ending was probably the most touching, sincere moment of the series.
Ok, the finale during S2 was great also, but filled with gravitas.
The Gift showed Buffy accepting and embracing her fate.

SuicideBooth
10-06-2011, 05:57 PM
Which reminds me... "Bargaining"... I can't believe they actually showed Buffy's decaying corpse that close.

cinco
10-06-2011, 06:16 PM
Yeah... it was a quite unsettling sight. S6 was overall dark. What did you think of the scene between Spike and Buffy in the collapsing house?

SuicideBooth
10-06-2011, 06:22 PM
You mean they having rough collapsing building sex? Wasn't surprised really... lol

cinco
10-06-2011, 06:23 PM
The sex outside that fastfood place was even cheaper. :(
Buffy's personal low point as a character.

SuicideBooth
10-06-2011, 06:32 PM
Yeah, she went pretty low. But hey, can you blame her? You know... the coming back to life in a coffin underground?

cinco
10-06-2011, 06:37 PM
And they tore her out of heaven. :O

Did you like the Angel-cameo during the Chosen-finale?

It was touching, but Spike's sacrifice was even more touching.
He said he really felt his soul before burning up. Maybe that was the moment he got shanshu. :O He became alive but died immediately.

Ok, I know it wasn't :P but it's a nice thought of him being finally redeemed in the finale. :)
He went quite a road from villain to hero. A bit strange he felt a bit like S4-Spike in Angel's last season.
But his bigger brother attitude towards Fred was nice.

SuicideBooth
10-06-2011, 06:42 PM
Yeah Angel's cameo was awesome. I like how he got all jealous because he no longer was the only vampire with a soul.
Angel: So everyone's got a soul now... You know I got it before it was cool...

cinco
10-06-2011, 06:57 PM
That was so good about those series! The flow between humour, action, and drama. :)

SuicideBooth
10-06-2011, 07:59 PM
Yeah, multiple genres molded into one perfect TV series.

cinco
17-06-2011, 10:27 AM

SuicideBooth
17-06-2011, 10:36 AM
Kinda awkward but also kinda funny. lol
Andrew was always the best.

cinco
17-06-2011, 10:42 AM

In a way, I kinda suspected some of them or one of them would join the Scoobies later on.

cinco

I didn't like what happened to Jonathan in S7. He was part of the show from the beginning.
So it was kinda unexpected and shocking.

But yeah, RIP Jonathan
'Superstar' is still one of the top ten funniest episodes imo.

17-06-2011, 10:54 AM

S5 also? Why? Because of Glory?

SuicideBooth
17-06-2011, 11:12 AM

Too late. Already have. It's not that sex was bad, but it kinda didn't sit right with the tone of the show.

No, I just preferred the High School setting where they solved cases n stuff. When S4 started, it was more sex and personal lives.

SuicideBooth
17-06-2011, 07:32 PM
It was pretty sweet, yeah. Man, you could really see how David had aged by season 5.
It is kinda sad that the longer they wait to do any new Buffy live-action material, the less chances they can use the same actors as vampires.

cinco
17-06-2011, 07:35 PM
Yeah, James Marsters (Spike) is 49 already.

SuicideBooth
17-06-2011, 07:45 PM
So what's your favourite season of Angel/Buffy?

cinco
18-06-2011, 09:15 AM
Well, for Angel it's a tie between S2 and S5 and for Buffy it's definitely S5.

SuicideBooth
18-06-2011, 11:13 AM
I think the first season of Angel was by far the best, with the last season a close second.
It's funny how the cast changed over time. It began with Angel, Cordy and Doyle and the latter two were dead by season 5.

cinco
18-06-2011, 11:19 AM
Well, everybody is dead one way or another at the end. Fred, Wesley, Lindsey, possibly Gunn also post-credits.
Only Lorne lives to tell the tale.
There's a theory that Lorne serving as storyteller in 'Spin the Bottle' of S4 is something that happens after S5 (so that he travels around and reminisces about all that has happened), because he is all dark and moody in that scene and it feels more like the Lorne at the end of S5 than the Lorne from S4.

True, Joss Whedon certainly wasn't afraid to hold back on the drama. It was weird though that the characters Doyle only lasted half a season. I wonder why they killed him off so early.

cinco
18-06-2011, 07:24 PM
It was planned. It was to show that anyone could die in the show.
Initially they wanted to use the Whistler-character from Buffy S2 instead of Doyle as ANgels early guide in LA, but the actor that played Whistler had no free agenda.

Other trivia: Whedon played Lornes dancing relative at Pylea.

SuicideBooth
18-06-2011, 07:30 PM
Yea but it sucks. You begin to like a character and they just kill him off...

cinco
18-06-2011, 07:38 PM
The actors who played Doyle and Lorne are already dead in real life.

SuicideBooth
18-06-2011, 07:42 PM
Yeah I'm aware, though Doyle's actor didn't die until about 2 years after his character was killed.

cinco
18-06-2011, 07:44 PM
Yeah... but before S5.

Thats why Cordelia and Angel could play that hurt so genuine when Lindsey pretended to be Doyle.

SuicideBooth
18-06-2011, 07:46 PM
Yeah...

So which do you prefer? Angel or Buffy TV series?

cinco
18-06-2011, 07:51 PM
I see them as one whole.
But the Angel-series had more surprising and daring plots.

SuicideBooth
18-06-2011, 07:57 PM
Angel was noticeably more complex. Buffy just had the big baddy that needed killing. With Angel, you never knew what the big baddy even looked like...

cinco
18-06-2011, 08:01 PM
Yeah, Angel-storylines could totally change mid-season.

And you had storylines like basically a hero vampire-hunter in S3 who was turned into a villain.
I mean... Holtz his initial hunt for Angelus and Darla was 100 percent dignified.

SuicideBooth
19-06-2011, 03:07 PM
Yea I kinda hated the whole Angel having a child thing. I missed the whole "Lone hero in a dark alley" act like it was during most of Season 1.

cinco
19-06-2011, 03:22 PM
I thought the first season had too many standalone episodes.
Only at the end they started the beginning of an ongoing arc.

The Faith-twoparter was amazing though.

Also... S1-Angel felt like a Batman-wannabe. :P

SuicideBooth
19-06-2011, 03:27 PM
Well I haven't watched much Batman so it didn't feel like a rip-off to me.
Yeah the Faith arc was damn sweet.
Funny, Angel admitted he needed those visions and asked Doyle to be returned, but in Season 5 he was operating well without any visions.

cinco
19-06-2011, 03:30 PM

But he didn't foresee any future events.

cinco
19-06-2011, 03:37 PM
There were some psychics working for Wolfram and Hart.
And Lorne as an empath demon could also feel trouble brewing in people, like with that episode of the geek who wanted to freeze time in S2.

SuicideBooth
19-06-2011, 03:41 PM
Yeah, I guess there was that.

SuicideBooth
19-06-2011, 03:49 PM
Actually I Will Remember You is my favourite, You're Welcome is a close second. Just overall great episodes with fantastic endings.
What's your favourite?

cinco
19-06-2011, 03:52 PM
Well, both of them are surely in my top 10.
I also like the episodes Darla and Dear Boy a lot. Same for Shells and A Hole In The World.
But it is hard to choose an absolute favorite.

I thought this arc (in the picture beneath) was the highlight of Buffy season 8. Afterwards the story kinda goes a strange path.

Angel was... not very ok and Buffy/Spike just went back to the basics. Hopefully season 9 will be something a lot more down to earth and akin to the earlier seasons. I haven't read the Angel comics so I don't know what happened to the rest of Angel's team...

I check at Buffy sites from time to time to get any updates on the comics just incase anything major happens, like character deaths and stuff but I don't follow them with much interest. I gave up pretty early on in season 8.
