Honestly, the iPod sucks. My earphone's broken, it's only a year old, most my other earphones break in at least 2 years. All my friends brag about their iPods, then complain within a week because it's broken. Their quality of the hardware sucks, nonetheless, the AAC format, and iTunes are something to praise about, not to mention their shares. :D

I'm not much of an MP3 guy, but my Rio lasted much longer than 99% of iPods.

I must admit the Sony Walkman MP3 players do have good sound quality.

But the iPod gives you status.

Maybe You Just Don't Treat It Good, Mine And None Of My Friends Have Broken And I've Had Mine Almost 2 Years. But Headphones Usually Only Last A Week For Me Anyway, The iPod Ones Actually Lasted Longer For Me.

I used to have IRiver mp3 player that lasted for good 1 year and half for me. But IPod, damn, it's so easy to use with many features. So I go with that

iPods ARE mp3 players. Just a brand of them. For what its worth, I don't like apple as a company and will never own an iPod. They break all the time, they're too locked into proprietary software (iTunes sucks, honestly so much is broken)

I have a creative Zen Vision:m right now, but for my next purchase I'm looking to avoid creative on principle because of their stance on Daniel K.

2 video iPods, a 30GB and an 80GB. (Apple calls these "classics" now)

I use the 30GB at work, it's mechanically sound, but the case is very scratched up.

Very easy to use, and I love the playlist feature. As for proprietary issues, it's nothing that DRM software can't fix.
