View Full Version : Does this guy ever stop? The Freak's Five Weakest Futurama Episodes!!

I know I know...this is a Futurama forum, so slamming anything Futurama is sorta sacriligious...mmm sacrilicious....*drools*......sorry went on a Homer tangent there. But I'm not really slamming these episodes, just pointing out that to me they are the weakest of the series run, which isn't to say they didn't have a funny moment here or there. Whatever, enough backpeddling...let's get it on!

The Five Weakest Episodes of Futurama

5. Bendin' In the Wind (Season 3)

I'm not gonna beat around the bush here......I'm not a fan of Beck's music, now or in the year 3000. So, to have him as the musical centrepoint of an episode is a weak start for me already. Add to that a kinda ho-hum plot and you have number five on my weakest episode list.

As I've said many times, Futurama doesn't really have any horrible episodes, just some that don't click as well as others. But, each and every episode does have its moments, or a great quote that has you chuckling. I mean Bender wanting to get in touch with his inner folk singer is kinda funny, after being somewhat handicapped and unable to do what he was built to do.

Bender: "Let me just do one thing to cheer myself up" *clink* (circuit shortcut sound) "Fry cracked corn, and I don't care. Leela cracked corn, I still don't care. Bender cracked corn, and he is great! Take that you stupid corn."

4. The Honking (Season 3)

Some Bender episodes are fantastic, and some are just kinda meh. This one is the latter.

After his uncle, The Archduke of Thermstadt, dies Bender is left his gigantic castle but on one condition -- he must spend an entire night there. This is basically an homage to the old classic horror movies, with Bender getting cursed and turning into a werecar in the night. His Planet Express comrades are the intended victims of the werecar's terrifying rampage.

Well, its all kinda cliched really and somewhat uninspired for a Futurama episode, and is an episode I don't really find myself caring to rewatch.

Fry: "Bender's supposed to murder his best friend, which I thought was me. He didn't even try to second-degree murder me!"
Leela: "Could you give me some help? I think Bender crushed my foot."
Fry: "Stop rubbing it in!"

3. That's Lobstertainment! (Season 3)

A lot of people criticize this episode by saying that it's because it is a Zoidberg-centric episode, and I argue that it is a weak episode not because of Zoidberg, but because of his uncle Harold Zoid. Harold is just kind of annoying and not that interesting. In addition, Calculon serves better when taken in light doses, and in this episode he weighs in heavily and weakens the story somewhat.

Add to the fact that the episode title is perhaps the weakest in the series, and probably has the least amount of choice quotes, and you have a weak entry indeed.

Tour lady: "To your right, you'll see 30th century fox studios. Fox uses those search lights to blind pilots, then film the resulting plane crashes "
Bender: "Neat!"

yeah i agree, the honking has a couple of great lines, even more so then the beck episode, but these are definitly two episodes i dont find myself watching very often. now just throw in the two santa episodes and harold zoid and you've named them all :P

Edit* lol you totally nailed the harold zoid episode for the exact reasons i can't stand it. ha!

And what about the Bender's cooking episode...?

Didn't even make me laugh out loud, just a few chuckles.

I have to agree with you on these points.

My least favorite episode is "A Leela Of Her Own."

2. A Leela of Her Own (Season 3)

Again, I like Leela don't get me wrong, but this episode was ill-conceived from the get-go. The joke of Leela being the worst blernsball player to ever live got old fast, and the inclusion of Hank Aaron's family line was just meh. Bob Uecker was cool to see in there though.

Really when you look at all the episodes, this one sticks out for some reason as it doesn't really fit for me. It's just sort of there, means nothing to the series plotlines, and is forgettable. Plus, the ending was bad.

Leela: "Professor! Please! Society is never gonna make any progress until we all learn to pretend to like eachother. Now let's go over there and make these hideous strangers feel welcome."
Professor: "No!"

1. The Cryonic Woman (Season 3)

I just realized that all of the weakest episodes are from season 3. Thankfully there are some truly fantastic episodes from that season that balance it out though.

The biggest problem I had with this episode was with Fry's girlfriend, Michelle. She is not a likeable character whatsoever, and not in a good way like Mother of the Robot Oil Company, and adds little humour to the show. She was a bitch in 1999 to Fry, and she's back in 3000 to continue her legacy.

For the plot itself, its weak as well, with an ill-advised joyride by Fry and Bender causing the crew to lose their jobs. Mixed up career chips leads Fry to work at the cryogenics lab, and Leela delivering pizza, hence Fry surprisingly thawing out Michelle. I also don't really buy into Michelle getting frozen in the first place. The later plot involving these bratty kids playing Lord of the Flies was boring and the kids just came off as annoying little shits.

Zoidberg: "Good bye friends! I'll miss you ... Good riddance to them. Now Zoidberg is the popular one!"
Farnsworth: "Yes, yes. Let's all talk to Zoidberg."

I liked the idea of Michelle being re-introduced - just so we can bash her some more for her bitchiness! And also to demonstrate to the audience that Fry actually is a decent individual at the end of it all - but I didn't really think much of the rest of the plot. They certainly could have executed it better.

But I don't think it's the worst episode of all by any stretch of the imagination. That title - in my opinion, anyway! lol - could be tacked to the aforementioned A Leela of Her Own, Bendin' in the Wind and That's Lobstertainment!, and also episodes like Spanish Fry, A Pharoah to Remember, Anthology of Interest II and A Taste of Freedom.

Great list, though, FuturamaFreak! You make good arguments in all cases! :)

Anthology of Interest II on a worst list?!?!?!?!

Wha?!?!?!

And Spanish Fry to me is an underrated episode...so many funny penis jokes and Lrrr's hilarious addiction to lower horn.

Lrrr: "I think I'll have Fry's lower horn jerked."

Bender: "It's used to it! WoooOOooooo!!!!"

Anthology of Interest II on a worst list?!?!?!?!

Wha?!?!?!

'Fraid so. ;) Liked the first one better - the stories were stronger.

And Spanish Fry to me is an underrated episode...so many funny penis jokes and Lrrr's hilarious addiction to lower horn.

Lrrr: "I think I'll have Fry's lower horn jerked."

Bender: "It's used to it! WoooOOooooo!!!!"

It depends on the mood I'm in when it comes to that episode. The first time I watched it, I didn't think much of it (but I was coming of the back of The Sting, Jurassic Bark and Devil's Hands, so...lol), and the second time I watched it, I liked it. Third time was the same as the first.

Oh, if only I could establish a stable opinion of this ep! lol I don't think it's the weakest episode of the whole series or anything. I just think it's a lot weaker than others.

lol Too true! It can get seriously boring when everyone agrees - and the only way they show their agreement with each other is by having 85 pages of forum space wasted with everyone saying: "OMFG TOTALLY U R SOOOOOO RIGHT LETS HAVE LITTLE AGREEMENT BABIES RIGHT NOW OMFG!!!!!!!!!!1111111111!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!!ONE."

Technically speaking, The Cryonic woman and The Honking are Season 2 episodes, not season 3 in production order.

There are 12 Futurama episodes I just canīt swallow:
-Fishfull of dollars
-My three suns
-Mars university
-The Cryonic woman
-Thatīs lobstartainment
-Bendinī in the wind
-I dated a robot
-A pharaoh to remeber
-A Leela of her own
-Kif gets knocked up a notch
-Three hundred big boys
-Spanish Fry

Strangely, season 3 pruduction was important and otherwise classic era but 5 of these 12 are coming from it.
