What do you think is the saddest or most emotional episode of Futurama?

If I've missed one, hit "Other" and tell us about it!

That's alright! I'm glad to see that there's a spread here--not all the votes are going to the same ep. It makes it more interesting to me, I think.

I was just thinking, though--I'm surprised that Predy voted for Jurassic Bark, yet he hates dogs....LOL :p

Jurassic Bark for me as well. I end up skipping the last part whenever this episode airs. Definately the saddest. At least with the other episodes, like Luck Of The Fryish, The Sting and Leela's Homeworld, you are left with a good feeling basically, whereas this one you cry from being sad.

Cloverfield
11-07-2007, 06:21 PM
Yup, totally agree, one of the saddest endings to an animation program!!

Desired FX

All four listed really tugged at my heartstrings, but "The Luck of the Fryrish" was the most emotional overall. I mean, they made me cry at a scene where Fry was defiling a grave while Bender was randomly stealing body parts in the cemetery. "There, now no one can say I don't have John Larroquette's spine!" That's quite a feat.

However, I think "The Sting" was the most creative of the episodes, and "Jurassic Bark" had the perfect ending.

Along with these four, I'd like to add "The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings" for emotional impact.

Oh, and "Time Keeps on Slipping." That haunting moment with Fry looking out the window while Bender slowly shuffles away, whistling "Sweet Georgia Brown." Great moment to cap off a very emotional climax.

Oh, and I kinda like "Godfellas," too.

I better stop before I type in every episode but "That's Lobstertainment!"

my eyes got hot at the end of Luck of the Fryrish, can't say that about the others, well the sting was close, but not so much because I figured it out part way through. Something about how they set up the rivalry between the brothers, then it turns out t be very loving in the end, and the name-great mislead.

luck of the fryrish because he realises his brother who he seems to hate cared for him after his dissappearence and even named his own son after him,the fact that he kept that picture alone is great

its writing like that that made futurama a step ahead of the rest

JetGirl
26-10-2007, 05:58 PM
ok the one with seymour of course left me with such a bad taste in my mouth, especially the end of the episode, very very sad.

but i have to say the ending with leela when they play that music and you see how much her mom and dad were taking care of her and trying to be there for her as much as possible, very very touching, but in a happy sad way :)

Yeah, that scene in 'Leela's Homeworld' gets me. I downloaded the song because I just love it :)

I downloaded it too! I actually had it on my MySpace page for awhile.

All of those episodes made me cry, but Jurassic Bark was the worst for me. The first time I saw it, I had just recently lost my cat that I had since I was about 8-years-old. She couldn't sing Walking on Sunshine or anything, but she was still really special. Also take into account that I'm a huge animal lover. :)

Although I think The Sting is my all-time favorite episode.

Oooh, tough choice!

After much deliberation, my vote goes to "Jurassic Bark", but really, it's a close call! :)

All four of the mentioned episodes are real gut-punchers emotionally.

Other episodes that get me are "The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings" and "Time Keeps On Slippin'" - the endings to both these eps are pretty emotional.

Well at the time it was 'jurassic bark'.....Because my dog had just died.....:(:(:(:(:..

I had the same problem! The first time I saw "Jurassic Bark" was right after my dog had to be put down due to illness. Oh boy, did I cry at the end of that episode! The same happened with that episode of "Grey's Anatomy" where Meredith has to put her dog down. :'(

Hmm, that reminds me of when I was 8 years old and Bill Clinton was being inaugurated for the first time as President...I just started laughing out loud and I still don't know why. Worst thing was, we were watching it in school, so I made a total idiot of myself in front of my class. And my teacher gave me a "look."

add Parasites Lost and the Devils Hands are Idle Playthings to the list!!!!
these two episodes are milestones in the relationship between Fry and Leela..
Devils Hands, the last episode of season 4, was so magical at the end, where it shows a holograph of Fry and Leela walking into the distance, hand in hand..

but of course i haven't seen the four new movies, so dont spoil it for me! :P

As the other poll over at PEEL went, I am the minority on this one as well. All choices listed are indeed sad, and/or emotionally powerful. My vote for the one that hit me hardest was Leela's Homeworld. As with The Sting, which also hit me very hard emotionally, seeing Leela go through the emotional rollercoaster of wanting to kill who she thought killed her parents (and nearly doing so), to realizing they are her parents was very powerful, and the subsequent reunion & ending montage was very powerful. What also tore me up was the flashback part when you see Leela's parents leaving her on the steps, as they watch from the sewer drain, but in the end I didn't feel as bad, because in a way, they didn't totally abandon her, and (pun fully intended) kept an eye on her as she grew up. Runner up choice goes to The Sting basically made me feel the same way, only it was from seeing Leela go through emotional hell over almost losing a dear friend. The one part in that episode that chokes me up every time is when Leela has stressed out, reaches her breaking point, and decides to eat the honey 3 times (this of course heavily implies suicide) to me, that made it that much more upsetting than any other scene, in any other episode.

Just when he thinks that Yancy hated him, but really Fry finds out that his brother did love him and that he named his son after him.

I know most people think Jurassic Bark, but for me, Luck is the saddest. It's also somewhat happy, when Fry realizes his brother always loved him {so sad and happy at the same time}. I actually think Luck may be my favorite episode of the series

I still can't watch Jurassic Bark, ever, although the rest of the episode was hilarious. The Luck of the Fryrish is emotional too, but in kind of a happier way.

I voted for "The Sting".
The other choices are all great (Luck of the Fryrish would be my second choice), but because of the mutual love shown between Fry and Leela, the range of emotions and the potential for a meaningful relationship, I have to go with "The Sting".
