I think all combat eventually comes down to some form of of judo/wrestling/grappling or whatever..Unless you knock your opponent out with the first blow..

No....i believe it IS to do with self defence...And in certain situations self defence means taking a person out before they have a chance do cause you harm...Therefore if you depend on a Blow of some kind to defend yourself..You are restricted by proximity to your opponent...You can't kick/punch a person who has grabbed hold of you.

No he didn't...He drilled into me all the usual "for defence and never attack crap"....I picked up those bad habits in a late teen early 20's period of fighting every night..Which is why i tend to stay away from crowded areas when Ive had a few bevvies......Court order...LOL

hey all, well, i just got back from my karate lesson, im grading on saturday, my blue belt! :D

and martial arts, as for me has saved my ass more than once, but i have had to make the first blow, he came at me with a knife, i reacted, broke his arm and dis-located his leg, and gave his nose a back fist, which i think broke his nose.

im not proud of the fact i attacked first, or of the fact i had a fight in the first place, i try to avoid them at all costs, i only fight if im backed in a corner

I'm ignorant of the grading in karate..In judo blue was before brown...then black after that...is it the same?

lol, when i get going, i lose controll, its like i have to tell my self to do someting, and it echos in my head for a 1000 times, and only then my muscles react, i go... nuts, i just dont stop untill there inert

but each section has 3 areas to be marked on, strength, technique, and will
