I threatened to draw Futurama cartoons in the thread "Drawing experiment with the Trio"
You had some time to jump up, wave your arms franatically in the air,
screaming "Oh No, No, Dear Lord No, Nay, a thousand times NAY!!!!"

You failed to do so, that's why I started this thread :D
Right now there is only one cartoon, but I will keep posting others
as soon as they are completed.

First One, based on "All the presidents heads": Which times they
might yet visit, and which other events are for the crew to chang or trigger in that past.
(Yep...I know they are not dressed properly according to that epoche...
if anyone should feel disturbed by that, he/she can bite my hairy, biological ass :p)

You know...some jokes are so predictable and obvious that despite (or rather BECAUSE) of that they just have to be drawn.
(As this is the second cartoon ridiculing Leela in a row, I was reluctant to draw this one. But my other ideas feature too many persons and details, so this was the only cartoon I could finish in one evening....)

Finished another one...this time a longer cartoon.
I got that idea when I read a post in another forum regarding the old question wether Fry and Leela should make a couple or not.
One point mentioned was them being able to stay professional regarding the job, and keep it seperated from their private life.
Stay professional about the job? Well...imhO, certainly not from the beginning. Sounds rather like a lesson to be learned the hard (means: Embarassing) way. So, had the idea for this cartoon:

Amazing stuff as per, IH, you've got serious talent. I like how it's evolved from single picture jokes to now a full comic page, and it looks like you've put in alot of work and loads of detail into them (that big pirate ship looks incredible!) Nice to see more characters too, like Hermes, Amy and Kif. Keep it up, man :thumbup1:

Great art ones again. :D

But just one question. Why do all the women have excessively large breasts? lol

Because hardly any cartoonist exaggerates the female form, and I always wondered: Why?
Let's go back to Asterix (which I consider the greatest comic series of all time):

It had one flaw for me (not that it would matter much, that series is pure genius):

Uderzo went with the male characters over the top (a nose 20 times as large as
a normal human's one, a strong warrior had a bizeps bigger than young Schwarzenegger's
Torso, a fat man would have a belly that is broader than two Sumo Ringers in a row, etc..)

But when he went to draw a pretty girl, it was basically a comperatively realistic
36-24-36 dolly, with just a bigger head. Regarding that characters, I always thought
"Geez...exaggerate EVERYONE, or NO ONE". (not only Uderzo did so...that design difference
is rather common, even the norm among cartoonists).

I also went facepalm when I heard cartoonists say "You cannot really exaggerate the
female form". Erm...okay...look at an hourglas figure. That shape is basically it's
own instruction how to be exaggerated. In many cartoons, I see exaggerated males
and rather normal females, and I always wondered "Hell..they look as if they belong
to different comic/cartoon universes. Go "over the top" with everyone, or keep everyone "low key"".

You think I exaggerate the female form? Compare that exaggeration to those that is
common with males in comics/cartoon. My female characters are still rather "low key" compared to that...

can you please do a scruffy one?

Damned...do you know how difficult it is to come up with a punchline for a character that usually just says "M-Hm...", "Hrrm.." or "Yep"?

Anyway...I figured something out that should work.
The cartoon will feature Scruffy, Thog, Kug and Ornik as main characters, and Fry, Leela and Bender as supporting characters. (Snu Snu and Snu Snu jokes will NOT be involved, btw..).

Right now, I justed wanted to make you curious about the cartoon. I will not be in a hurry to finish or post is here too soon, but take my time to complete it... :D (As I already did state in another board: "I'm German...and VE CAN'T DO NIZE!!!" :D )

Well...personal taste does vary, but I sincerly hope you do not see a middle-aged, slightly overweight houswife like Impedimenta (English name) as "pretty girl" ;)
I was rather refering to something like that:

http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/7501/falbalaobelix.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/20/falbalaobelix.jpg/)

And I think Leela and Amy will figurewise be rather with Falballa than Impedimenta...
(I could have done other exaggerations with middle-aged, non 36-24-36 women, but they are not featured in Futurama's main cast. So I'll have to find a proper exaggeration for the available chars....)
And regarding Gaston: Well...that's relatively low key compared to Asterix anyway.

(But I would prefer to stop the image posting now...in my experience, a thread can relatively soon be littered with "Hey, look what I found on the net to support this/that theory-images. I'd prefer to avoid that here....)

Ha, the names of the characters are different in my Belgian version of the comic.

I also noticed how you parodied the Asterix-pirates in your comic.
That ship you drew looks beyond awesome by the way.

And I posted the village-wife and the girl from Gaston to show that not all te women follow the same strict rules regarding design.

(nothing to do with the subject but just curious: Ever read Tome and Janry's Spirous?)

And in these cases it was alluded towards your remark about the noses of the male characters.
The female examples I showed have also exaggerated noses.

Again about the flagmast from the pirate-ship on the page before, how did you accomplish that texture?

And an Asterix-question... what's your favorite comic from the series?

Again about the flagmast from the pirate-ship on the page before, how did you accomplish that texture?

And an Asterix-question... what's your favorite comic from the series?

The texture was drawn by hand. I did draw the hexagons first (beginning with parallel pencil lines for orientation), inked them, and then filled them with little circles (no pencil on these...those were inked directly).

Asterix: I do not have a very specific favorite. Though I do prefer the old, Goscinny written plots.
Usually, I prefer the modern franco-belgian fantasy line, beginning with "Black Moon chronicles" (Ledroit's drawings made me go for details), most of Arleston's stuff (Lanfeust of Troy, Ythaq, etc...). Also "Requiem, Vampire Knight" (which showed that a story -that basically sounds like the cheapest trash- can still work brillantly if supported by proper designs).

cinco
16-09-2011, 11:25 AM
Yeah, I think some of the Asterix-touch went lost after Uderzo's death.
And I also like Lanfeust, but again it started to spread thin with all the spinoffs and none of them was able to recapture the greatness of the original Lanfeust of Troy-run.

And wow for making all that stuff by hand. :O

How long do you draw on one page?

Inquisitor Hein
23-09-2011, 08:56 PM
Depends on the chosen characters, the level of detailing, and the panel setup.
Usually, an A4 page (e.g. the "Pirate Cartoon Prequel") needs between 1h and 2h.
For the recent cartoon, every pic was a seperate A4 page. As Fry-Bot and Leela-Bot are rather detailed (I also hadn't drawn them before, so some design work was also needed), the 2h mark was exceeded by between 30 minutes and 1h (I didn't take exactly the time...)

cinco
24-09-2011, 11:26 AM
Between 1h and 2h is quick for that level of detail and quality.

My comics didn't look that good at all and it took me also that amount of time.

Inquisitor Hein
24-09-2011, 01:30 PM

It's rather experience than the time invested that decide about a comics quality.
Comic artists that are much better than me often do not have more details, their lines are just more precise.
But...a line is a line and therefore usually takes the same amount of time to draw.
(E.g. the most difficult, and yet fastest to draw character in my thread so far was "Thog" in the Amazonian cartoon. Just a few lines, and the details (bones in her hair, fang-made bra) were also white. Meaning that this character would not forgive a single, ill-drawn line. The most difficult one, and yet the fastest to draw. My experience to draw few lines properly allowed me to draw her, not the time I did invest in her picture)

Your art is imhO a good thing to start with: Straight, plain, simple lines, therefore you can add more and more details. A plain "fundament". I did start with too many details which I somehow tried to "put together". During the years, I had to "tune down", which was not always an easy learning process.

A little piece of (rather sketchy) concept art:

http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/3654/14882771.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/17/14882771.jpg/)

In a future comic (comic, not cartoon), the intro will show the past, featuring the three main Amazonians as kids. Hope they turned out recognisable (though Ornik somehow reminds me of Lisa Simpson...well...regarding both series creator, not quite unfitting ;) )

Keep em comming Hein. I'm envious of your talent. lol

Inquisitor Hein

Thanks:) But there is not need for envy: Basically, my style is rather work and details, and not so much talent.

So, got a new one, a sequel to this cartoon:

Futurama Fan Forum - View Single Post - My Futurama Cartoon(s) (http://www.futuramaff.com/showpost.php?p=873850&postcount=12)

Yes, they're back:)

Howdy:)
A little piece of concept art for a future, longer comic (the same comic for which I did the "Amazonian Kids" concept piece).
This time: A space whaling ship.

http://img813.imageshack.us/img813/3561/spacewhalingship.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/813/spacewhalingship.jpg/)

Another design for the same comic that will feature the Whaler, the Kid Amazonians and the two show heavy troopers.

This time:
The return of the Feministas (about the way Tarantino probably would have designed them;) :

.Howdy:)
Suffered from a -fortunately only slight- conjunctivits, but had to reduce my drawing time anyway. So, here is the last design for the comic already mentioned (that will see the reformed feministas, the heavy troopers, the whaler, etc..).

This time:
A re-education camp on planet Amazonia.
Why someone built that camp seems to be obvious, but the question will rather be: WHO?
(Also...the autogun features a symbol that has already been shown before...should anyone be able to find it in another picture in this thread, I will tell this person "Well done" ;))

Some -drawn in 30 minutes sillyness- with maybe a slight touch of fanservice ;)

Do u do some great work. honestly, you should try to get something out of this. See if they would sign you on for a contract to write comics. Obviously you have a talent for it, and you have some good idea's. If you have a good presentation maybe you could get them to over look this and employ you to create a Comic version of Futurama. That'd be outstanding.

If this sounds like a good idea - I get free copies right? •.•

Thanks:) But about getting a job in the comic industry: Well, comics are a hobby for me, something to relax, and I want them to stay that way. Also, I prefer a safer job.

But to make sure my post does not only contain negative comments by me, here is another cartoon. When I read in a forum the question "What happend if Fry worked out", I immediatelly thought "Well..most certainly THIS would happen....":

http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/1889/fwow.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/221/fwow.jpg/)

Also, start of a new fancomic by me, named "30". Will be a rather long comic (over 50 page, maybe over 100), based on/spoofing "300", "Indiana Jones", "Pirates of the Carribbean", "Children of Man", etc... .

Inquisitor Hein, you are really talented!
You have carried Futurama to absolutely another level!
It's a fresh and new look!
Would love to see ,, covers'' to 'The Simpsons' and 'Family Guy' :bighug:

Thanks:) I wondered wether I should go for the usual Groening style, or my own.
But as many fanartist already went for the traditional style, I decided to go for a more unique approach.

So, continued my fancomic "30" a bit:

Where do you gut the time to draw all of this? There's so much detail it's amazing.

Inquisitor Hein

The sad thing is: I do not have said time...
I can draw those imagess rather fast due to a certain routine, but some of them a rather rush jobs, I'm afraid.

So, drew another regular cartoon again.
This time:
